SAN ANTONIO FILM INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES
SELECTION INTO ARTS INCUBATOR PROGRAM
San Antonio, TX, February 11, 2008: The San Antonio Film Institute (SAFI) announces it’s participation in the Arts Incubator Program.
The Arts Incubator Program is sponsored by the San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs. The mission of the new Program is to assist emerging arts groups in developing and establishing their organization as nonprofit entities and to provide technical assistance to the organizations’ leadership in the areas of board governance, fiscal reporting and responsibilities, nonprofit management and leadership, and program development. The program is administered by the Nonprofit Resource Center of Texas.
According to Yolanda Uranga, Director of Education and Training for the Nonprofit Resource Center of Texas, “The artistic community and the San Antonio Film Institute is an integral part of San Antonio life and the larger nonprofit community. We are honored to work with the art groups in the Incubator Program.”
Managing Member of the San Antonio Film Institute, Dar Miller, states that the Institute is one of seven groups inducted into the new program through an extensive application process.
According to Ms. Miller, SAFI is energized by the many benefits of the program. “The fiscal reporting aspect of the program will benefit SAFI greatly as we rely heavily on corporate and individual donations. It is important for us to insure that all of our financial processes are carried out following best practices.”

~ About Us ~
San Antonio Film Institute (”SAFI“) is a 501 (c) 3 organization dedicated to serving San Antonio filmmakers and their audiences. SAFI was granted nonprofit status in 2007 and is governed by a board of directors and operates through these and other volunteers. For it’s first two years, the primary function of SAFI has been to produce the San Antonio Local Film Festival (”SAL“). SAL is a yearly film showcase that provides an opportunity to support local filmmakers by providing cash awards, educational opportunities, and a screening for the city of San Antonio and supporters of independent film.
Thank you for checking in ! dar
The San Antonio Film Institute is producing a 3-4 part series as a public service announcement for 2008. The series consists of one and a half minute spots that chronicle a filmmaker and his crew during the process of producing their first short film. The project is written and directed by Sam Lerma.
The Concept: We follow a group of friends through the ups and downs of a filmmaking project in a series of 3 spots. The Twist: The 4th spot is the one and a half minute project that the actors completed in the fictional series. The Payoff: The actor’s finished project will be screened at the opening of the San Antonio Local Film Festival in October.
Sound interesting? The casting call is tentatively scheduled for Sunday evening, October 10th, location TBD. If you would like to participate or receive more information, we invite you to check back here, or on SALspace for details.
Thanks for stopping by! dar
SAL is looking for a home for the 2008 Festival to be held in October. Yesterday I enjoyed a brief tour of the Empire Theatre located in downtown San Antonio at 226 N. St. Mary’s Street. I was impressed, very impressed. The historic Theater offers a wonderful slice of San Antonio history that not many locals have had an opportunity to explore. I think the Empire would certainly contribute to one of the primary goals of the festival:
“A Great Night for San Antonio Filmmakers and their Audiences”
Have you enjoyed a show at the Empire Theatre? If so, we would like to hear about your experience! If not, you can learn more about the Empire including a brief history and a virtual tour here.

Meanwhile, you can check out here as well!
